Product Features and Benefits

Wordshaft theme has a variety of colors you display your site in such as the default light or you can go with a dark or gray appearance. It’s completely widget ready and so the right hand sidebar can be used to display text, html or any advertising you want.

When it comes to widgets you can display your twitter feed, flickr photos or just regular advertising in the sidebar as well as mini videos

They make it very easy to change the logo by letting you go with either an image or plain text at a click of a button inside the admin.  It has options for displaying social media icons throughout the site and having your best content display in the slider.

Functionality

Under the Blog area you will see related two columns. In one column is related posts which provides an image and the title of that post and the other is popular posts. At first I thought these were being run using a plugin but a little look inside the source code and I was able to see that they have hard coded it into the theme.

Your comments and date are displayed prominently at the left hand side and cut into the image area, which is part of the reason I thought there was an issue with this theme in the first place.

There is a nice area at the top right hand corner for a 468 x 60 advertising banner which adds to the other sidebar advertising area.

There does not appear to be any option for shortcodes which we all know extends the functionality of a theme and make inserting buttons and quotes very easy.

Compatibility and Code

I tested the theme in Internet explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome and they all checked out fine except for Internet explorer if you go under a post at the very bottom the related posts are not displaying correctly at all and so everything is bunched up.

It used contact form 7 as a plugin for the theme but it’s not reliant on that and you can change it if you wish.

I checked the theme to see how valid the XHTML and CSS were and it had 1 error which was on line 591, column 14

Performance Check

A super-fast loading theme which I was astonished scored slightly lower when I ran the theme through Google page speed tool as it came back showing it had scored 78/100 with a few references to areas they could improve on.  Had it scored 100 it would have been classed as perfectly optimized. At the moment Google is very big on load speeds of websites so it was nice to see that they scored high.

3 Pros – Things that are great about the theme

  • Unique slider at the top
  • Nice drop down menu
  • Nice nested comment system

3 Cons – Things which aren’t too good

  • The way the images on each post shows it makes the theme look broke
  • Very bland site
  • Issue with internet explorer in the related posts area.
