Overall first impression on The Corporation theme was that it has been designed for a more hip and trendy type of business instead of what it names implies “Corporate.” I just don’t get that corporate feel when I view it. I do however find it very eye catching and tasty to look at. I would say it would appeal to a local coffee story, restaurant or authors blog.
Product Features and Benefits
It uses a JQuery slider on the homepage which automatically moves by itself or I believe you can set it so that a user can click through with the arrow or image gallery below it. It was created according to elegant themes to be a page based homepage design with the option of changing it to a regular style blog. The homepage is meant to be used a landing page for promotion of services or products.
It is all set up with advertising management which allows you to place 125 x 12 banners images in your sidebar as well as 468 x 60 ads in your posts or pages and this is done within the options panel inside the admin area.
An option that most elegant themes have is the automated thumbnail resizing which will automatically resize your images, so you only have to insert 1 image per post instead of two versions which occurs in some themes.
The menu at the top uses a nice jquery slider and so does the search which is not visible until you mouse over the word “Search.”
The theme has a choice of page templates you can select when creating your pages, some of those are; sitemap, advanced search, full width, images gallery, contact form, blog feed and member login which lets you create a nice solution for your readers to login or your authors to access the dashboard.
One thing I would like to point out is that in this theme you can insert shortcodes into your posts or pages with a button instead of actually having to type in the shortcode like most other themes. You have a choice between
- Content boxes
- Toggled Content
- Tabbed Content
- Social Media
- Password protected content
- Column layouts
- Image slider
- Easy tooltips
- Author info
- Custom lists
- Pricing Tables
Compatibility and Code
I ran the theme through all the 6 browsers and I’m pleased to say that there were no functionality issues and it’s compatible with all of them.
There are no details on what plugins come with this theme but I would imagine they would provide them with your download. Most theme companies are using free ones.
I checked the theme to see how valid the XHTML and CSS were and there are no problems at all.
The theme loads very fast without any issues and after running it through the Google page speed it came back with a whopping 88/100 which is super-fast and exceeds most themes. Had it scored 100 it would have been classed as perfectly optimized. At the moment Google is very big on load speeds of websites so it was nice to see that they scored high.
3 Pros – Things that are great about the theme
- The JQuery Slider
- Massive Shortcodes selection
- Very fast loading speed
3 Cons – Things which aren’t too good
- For a new user to word press it might be a little too advanced due to the numerous features
- The default font blends in too much
- It could provide an easier way to change the logo with an upload option in the admin area.
