Aimed at the Portfolio market, the Portfolio theme from Organic themes has a really nice clean, fresh feel to it when you first see it. I must say I do like this theme; it’s very minimalistic and original. I would say this theme would suit nicely anyone who was an illustrator or graphic designer.
Product Features and Benefits
The first thing that is going to catch your eye when you load this up is the magnificently large slider which slides both left and right. Below that you have 4 columns which you can use an image in each to link directly to your 4 most featured pages such as About, Blog, Article and Work.
Under the blog you have plenty of space to fit in a full size video or a large image in your posts. It has a right sidebar and is widget friendly.
Definitely illustrators and designers are going to like the benefits of having a theme which places the majority of attention on their work instead of the theme itself.
The portfolio options in this theme are utterly beautiful. They give you a selection of a 3 column case study page where you can show samples of work based around a recognized company. Under the identity option you can again have a 3 column layout to showcase work you have done. Finally under photography it provides a full width photo area for each of your photos. It’s really great for show casing your stock photos.
Navigation is cleanly done with a smooth dropdown for display subpages and categories
Compatibility and Code
I tested the theme in Internet explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome and everything loads and functions with ease. If there are any issues I didn’t see any.
I checked the theme to see how valid the XHTML and CSS it passed with flying colors
So far this has been the fastest theme that I have seen load up and I was very eager to run the theme through Google page speed tool to really get a better idea of how good it was and I found it scored and 83/100 with just minimal references to areas they could improve on. Had it scored 100 it would have been classed as perfectly optimized. At the moment Google is very big on load speeds of websites so it was nice to see that they scored high.
3 Pros – Things that are great about the theme
- Super minimalistic, clean and easy to navigate
- Very fast loading speed
- The three portfolio layout options
3 Cons – Things which aren’t too good
- No shortcodes
- Only a few colors
- Slightly washed out text colors
