Envisioned Theme – by ElegantThemes

At a first look I have to say that envisioned from ElegantThemes is another beautifully designed theme. The folks over at ET really know how to design a good looking, unique theme. It should appeal to most bloggers, designs and photographers.

Product Features and Benefits

Absolutely beautiful looking theme that allows a user to display multi-media galleries and various layouts

The slider is the most unique item in this theme, it’s a full width slider that displays individual images (portfolio) and the way to navigate it requires clicking on the arrows, or clicking the image or viewing the image in a blown up version with gallery below it.

They provide up to 8 page templates which you can choose between when creating pages such as: Sitemap, advanced search, members login, gallery, portfolio, full width, blog feed and contact page.

Below the main slider you have a 3 column layout for who, what and how you operate as a business, I really loved this

Directly below that is a place to insert a quote or a headline.

Sporting a top level menu where all your pages, blog posts can be accessed there is an area on the right for presenting your various social networks that you are associated with such as a twitter, rsss and facebook.

It has a nice smooth drop down for child pages.

At the very bottom you have your traditional 3 column widget area with a portfolio of images above that.

Like all of Elegant themes they really make sure that you get a lot of shortcodes which allows you to add elements to your posts and pages just by adding a simple snippet of code like [tab]. There are actually up to sixteen different types of shortcodes which can take complex requirements and simplify them within seconds such as adding:

  • Small buttons
  • Big buttons
  • Context boxes
  • Icon buttons
  • Toggled content
  • Tabbed content
  • Slideshows
  • Image slider
  • Tool tips
  • Social media Icons
  • Password protected content
  • Author information
  • Column layouts
  • Custom icon lists
  • Corporate pricing tables
  • Testimonials
  • Drop caps
  • Quotes

Compatibility and Code

I tested the theme in Internet explorer, Firefox, Opera and Chrome and I found an issue in Internet explorer that when you mouse over the slider while it works, there appears to be a slight glitch. Also when you mouse over the menu in internet explorer it drops down transparent and it comes down behind the slider image vs in all other browsers it’s solid and appears over the top.

The theme does use a lot of jQuery and from what I was able to determine as they don’t make it clear on the theme. It uses the WP-pagenavi plugin to help with navigation.

I checked the theme to see how valid the XHTML and CSS were and thankfully it passed which is always a good sign.

Performance Check

It was surprising really that it only scored 57/100 through the Google page score when it loaded very fast in all the browsers.  Had it scored 100 it would have been classed as perfectly optimized. At the moment Google is very big on load speeds of websites so it was nice to see that they scored high.

3 Pros – Things that are great about the theme

  • A Theme That is Very Professional Looking with a great use of color
  • Sweet slider
  • You can translate the theme into another language easily using their included MO and PO files

3 Cons – Things which aren’t too good

  • Would have been nice to see a search at the top vs right side
  • Fonts look a bit too light, hard for reading.
  • It could provide an easier way to change the logo with an upload option in the admin area.
