The Clothes Shop theme from Themeforest is beautiful. I have to say that if I was running a clothes shop I most likely would use this as the background is easy on the eyes, while the overall appearance screams professionalism. It would suit anyone running different stores.
Product Features and Benefits
This theme has a really unique homepage slider. It sports an area that displays product images that slide when you mouse over them revealing the various product areas. So for instance you could have men’s clothes left, women center and children on right then when someone mouse’s over it reveals categories for men, women or children.
Below this you have a 3 column area where you can setup and display coupons, gift cards and maybe some special that you are running for the month.
As you click on any category underneath the slider image you are taken to a blog area with a right sidebar which we know can be moved to the left side if you wish. It provides outfit, fit, or size, allowing you to segment your products
As you click on any item it displays in a 3 column product display which again if you mouse over any product you can click again to see a rear view.
Now, while there appears to be no shortcodes to extend the functionality of your site. The creator of this theme definitely has put some thought into what you would need to run a shop site running on wordpress. So, I say kudos to them.
Compatibility and Code
I tested the theme in Internet explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome and the theme loaded beautifully and as I navigated around it I didn’t encounter anything that looked different or didn’t function.
The theme makes use of a plugin called C-forms but this is so you can create forms on the site and it also makes use of cufon font replacement and wp-pagenavi all integrated.
I checked the theme to see how valid the XHTML and CSS and there were no errors at all.
The Clothing Shop opened up very smoothly without any hitches, yet it’s to be determined how it would load with different data in. I ran it through Google page speed tool and it showed a score of 77/100 which is low for a theme if 75 is average. Had it scored 100 it would have been classed as perfectly optimized. At the moment Google is very big on load speeds of websites so it was nice to see that they scored high.
3 Pros – Things that are great about the theme
- Creatively designed for easy use
- A error free theme
- Easy to upload images through the backend
3 Cons – Things which aren’t too good
- Would like to have seen more frontpage customization
- Needs more color options
- You have to purchase through Themeforest which means putting in more cash than the actual theme itself as theme forest requires a set amount.
