My Cuisine is a restaurant theme and rightfully so. The homepage is setup to display all the information that might interest future customers. Testimonials, the latest food critic review, the restaurants adress and contact information, including integrated Google Maps, and of course, the chefs recommendation along with the full menu. My Cuisine is indeed a theme made for restaurants, cafés or any other cuisine oriented establishment, but don’t be fooled by the images. With some simple tweaks, this theme can be used for any business or portfolio website.
As mentioned above, My Cuisine comes with a set of features to enable you to properly show off your restaurant. Most prominent features are listed in the sidebar to the right. As always when purchasing an ElegantThemes theme you’ll get a plethora of page templates. My Cuisine comes with 8 standard page templates, including Site Map and Blog Feed template to image gallery and portfolio. In addition, there’s the Menu page template which will allow you to add all your dishes served along with price, image and description.
Then there are the shortcodes, another common and useful feature with most themes by ET, will allow you to further experiment with the layout. With the extensive shortcode collection that comes with every ET theme, you can not only form the content of each post and page into multiple columns, but also easily add already made buttons and other graphic elements.
- PSD files included
- 8 Page templates
- Integrated Google Maps
- Customer Testimonials
- Featured Slider
- 5 Different Color Schemes
- Menu Section
My Cuisine is strictly speaking a modified business theme, to appeal to restaurant owners. But bare in mind that none of the images you see in the demo comes with the theme upon purchase. All other features however, such as the Testimonials, Menu, Google Maps etc, are fully integrated in the theme.
One detail we noticed when reviewing this theme in it’s live demo version, was an error with the margins. The layout was indeed fixed to the middle of the browser window but still scrollable to the right. This may not be an error shared by many and simply limited to the demo version of the theme.
Code & Compatibility
Like any ET theme, My Cuisine displays properly in all major browsers, including Safari, FireFox, IE7+8+6, Opera and Netscape. And while the code is clean and well-written, it contains heeps of integrated jQuery and advanced PHP scripts, why if you’re inexperienced with the world of coding you should stick to the theme options page, from where you’ll be able to control, enable/disable all functions of the theme.
ElegantThemes has made it standard practice to use jQuery in most of their themes. My Cuisine is not exception, with the featured slider on the homepage. The slider does not however slow down the loading time of the theme unless you use very large images. So make sure to keep images under 100KB if possible and not fill the slider with more than five featured posts at a time.
- Potential error with the margins makes the theme scrollable to the right, in the Live Demo
- Huge shortcode collection, including social media buttons, jQuery tabs and image slider, information boxes in various colors and sizes, buttons and much more
- Elegant design and user-friendly backend
