Product Features and Benefits
Modest theme has a 3 page slider directly in the middle with a luscious area for a killer headline at the top that was nice to see. As far as grabbing peoples attentions when they land on the site, I do think its key to have a good headline area while at the same time draw their attention to color and images, this does that in the bucket load.
With a variety of different colors available, you can see how versatile this theme could become for any company.
The blog structure provides you with a nice wide sized blog area which makes adding images and videos at full size much easier. It sports a right hand sidebar which is widgetized.
The Image gallery is super nice, it is a 2 column image area with the option of allowing your viewers to see a screenshot or go directly to that images post.
You will like the navigation on this theme has all your main pages and menus appear at the top along side the logo and each of them have a smooth drop down function which is using jquery.
Like all of Elegant themes they really make sure that you get a lot of shortcodes which allows you to add elements to your posts and pages just by adding a simple snippet of code like [tab]. There are actually up to sixteen different types of shortcodes which can take complex requirements and simplify them within seconds such as adding:
- Small buttons
- Big buttons
- Context boxes
- Icon buttons
- Toggled content
- Tabbed content
- Image slider
- Tool tips
- Social media Icons
- Password protected content
- Author information
- Column layouts
- Custom icon lists
- Corporate pricing tables
- Drop caps
Compatibility and Code
I tested the theme in Internet explorer, Firefox, Opera and Chrome and I actually found that all of them loaded fine except for internet explorer which there appears to be an issue with the slider, it works but the image that should show for clicking on isn’t showing like the other browsers.
The theme does use a lot of jQuery and from what I was able to determine as they don’t make it clear on the theme. It uses the WP-pagenavi plugin to help with navigation.
I checked the theme to see how valid the XHTML and CSS were it passed without a problem there were no errors which is great as so many themes now days seem to have errors.
While it loaded fast it didn’t score at all very high it scored 45/100 which is the lowest I have ever seen a theme score. Had it scored 100 it would have been classed as perfectly optimized. At the moment Google is very big on load speeds of websites so it was nice to see that they scored high.
3 Pros – Things that are great about the theme
- Visually it is gorgeous
- Tons of shortcodes to extend the functionality
- Solid support from elegant
3 Cons – Things which aren’t too good
- The issue in Internet explorer with the slider
- Could use some more colors
- Would be nice to see the choice of a left sidebar
