Overview

Catering to the Portfolio market, the Envision theme from Themefuse is very similar in style to other themes I have come across yet.  My general feeling is that this theme would work great for designers, photographers and companies that market software.

Product Features and Benefits

It uses a slider that I haven’t seen before. Most sliders generally will from left to right by clicking on the arrows and while it does provide that feature when you first load up the site you will notice how the featured slider, slides from small to larger moving directly towards you instead of left or right.

It sports five different color sliders which changes the whole color of the site. You can choose between a deep purple, blue, or grey.

You can have either a left side bar or a right one, pricing pages, engaging typography and different column portfolio pages. When it comes to the portfolio where you can display images or video, you can have it display them on a page in a one, two, three or four column display format. If you go with the four column layout it will be full width allowing you to maintain the same size images or video across the page.

It features a nice drop down menu for subpages and categories, and what I believe really helps with this theme is its very user friendly. The backend allows you to change vital parts such as logo, rss url, add tracking code, add custom css, change the favicon all with 1 click or by pasting in code and hitting save.

Functionality

The sliders on this theme are probably the most outstanding feature that it offers in terms of functionality.  It offers you the choice between five different sliders; Animated, Nivo, Text, Flash or single image. As you can imagine this makes this theme extremely versatile

It has a pricing page which is out of this world. Literally you can select the pricing template and it will provide you with a way to display your business pricing in a well-designed table with your best package at the forefront.

When it comes to shortcodes the theme offers three main types of shortcodes; Column shortcodes, HTML shortcodes and HTML shortcodes 2. If you select column shortcodes it provides you with some code that split your pages content into any number of columns including columns with color. If you opt for the HTML shortcodes, you are provides with the following functions;

  • Image Frame, position center
  • Image Frame with float left
  • Image Frame with float right
  • Mini Gallery
  • Beautiful Testimonial box
  • Drop Caps
  • Text with Quotes inside
  • Tabs Icons to display content in tabs
  • Framed Tabs
  • Toggle Content
  • Column Title First H3
  • Title as link H3
  • Box Styles
  • Block Quotes
  • Buttons
  • Customed List Styles
  • Checklist
  • Delete list
  • Arrow List
  • Search
  • TITLE H1,2,3,4,5 and 6
  • Newsletter signup

Compatibility and Code

I tested the theme in Internet explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome and everything worked smooth and perfect, this included the slider, tabs, posts and pages.

There is no known information regarding if the theme relies on plugins. I did an extensive search around and it appears to run without the use of any major plugins. I did however find it uses a plugin called tfuse which I believe is custom to the theme and allows customization of the top panel images.

I checked the theme to see how valid the XHTML and CSS and I ‘m sorry to admit that it actually had 38 errors and 27 warnings. I then checked it through another validation service and that one came back with 161 errors. So it appears the code isn’t as clean as it could be.

Performance Check

Bearing in mind all the errors that came up through XHMTL validation checker, it surprisingly loads very fast and you see no noticeable issues loading pages or posts. I decided to run the theme through Google page speed tool to really get a better idea of good it was and I found it scored 80/100 with a few references to areas they could improve on.  Had it scored 100 it would have been classed as perfectly optimized. At the moment Google is very big on load speeds of websites so it was nice to see that they scored high.

3 Pros – Things that are great about the theme

  • Absolutely beautiful looking theme that is highly customizable
  • Nice selection of shortcodes and lets you change the logo with 1 click in the admin
  • Very affordable, video tutorials and great support.

3 Cons – Things which aren’t too good

  • Could use more color options
  • Might be a little too advanced for new users as it provides tons of features
  • There is no phone support just email, documentation and forum.
