Functionality

Chameleon is a fully customizable theme which of course is a good thing. However, for the uninitiated this may be a bit overwhelming. That said, in terms of functionality, not only does ElegantThemes make available superb theme support for their customers, the theme comes with proper theme documentation.

Compatibility and Code

Chameleon is vouched to be compatible with all major browsers, including IE8, IE7, IE6, Opera, Netscape, Safare and Firefox. The code comes with comments for easy navigation. It is however not advisable to try and tweak Chameleon, or any ET theme for that matter, unless you know what you’re doing. Due to the heavy usage of jQuery and numerous advanced PHP scripts, most ET themes are not limited to the standard set of theme files.

Performance Check

According to Google’s Online Page Speed tool, Chameleon got a score of 79 (out of 100). This result says nothing about the actual loading time of the theme, but merely indicates that the theme is quite optimized as is, with little room of improvement. Furthermore, the results suggest that images should be combined into CSS sprites and images optimized (made into smaller file sizes). Additional fixes to speed up the theme could be to compress javascript used into fewer .js files.

Pros – Things that are great about the theme

  • Fully customizable with multiple fonts, bgr patterns and shortcodes
  • Cross-browser Compatibility Guaranteed
  • Complete localization support, meaning the theme can easily be translated to any language

Cons – Things which aren’t too good

  • Room for improving performance
